To capitalize on the Turtles' popularity, a concert tour was held in , premiering at Radio City Music Hall on August A pay-per-view special highlighting the concert was shown, and a studio album was also released.
The tour was sponsored by Pizza Hut in reality; thus, many references are made to their pizza. As part of a cross-marketing strategy, Pizza Hut restaurants gave away posters, audio cassettes of "Coming Out of Their Shells", and "Official Tour Guides" as premiums.
The original show of the tour was released on video with a making of video also released. Emerging from their Turtle Party Wagon, they would "ninja dance" across the stage while April performed the theme song to the show.
After the main show was done, they posed for pictures and signed autographs. They also appeared during the Easter parade dancing to their single "Pizza Power!
Once the Turtles broke into the mainstream, parodies also proliferated in other media, such as in satire magazines Cracked and Mad and numerous TV series of the period.
The Turtles engaged in a greater amount of overt violence in the pages of the early Mirage comic book series by Eastman and Laird.
As the TMNT were introduced into the mainstream, they were radically redesigned. In issue 19 of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles , the creators published an editorial addressing any possible concerns of readers as a result of this.
It stated, in part: "We've allowed the wacky side to happen, and enjoy it very much. All the while, though, we've kept the originals very much ours — forty pages of what we enjoy and want to see in our books, whether it comes from our own hands or from those of the talented people we work with".
The lyrics were also changed, such as changing "Splinter taught them to be ninja teens" to "Splinter taught them to be fighting teens".
The policies also had other effects, such as editing out use of Michelangelo's nunchaku which were at the time banned by James Ferman , chairman of the BBFC , from appearing in films and generally toning down the usage of all the turtles' weapons.
In Italy, Spain, Portugal and Germany, they kept Michelangelo's nunchaku but the "TMHT" logo could be seen in the intro, as it was not edited to reflect the title in each of those translations.
In Spain the cartoon was originally aired in regional TV channels and thus had different dubs in addition to Castillian : Galician and Catalan ; [ citation needed ] in the Galician version, the title As Tartarugas Mutantes "The Mutant Turtles" was used.
The Italian, German and European Portuguese dubs also had few edits. In the Republic of Ireland , the series was initially known as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles just like the US version and the intro sequence was unedited when it debuted on RTE Two with the airing of the second season in September In —, episodes were aired in their original US unedited form.
However, when the live-action movie came out in , the Ninja of the title was kept even in the UK. In time, nunchaku scenes were retained in previously censored movies such as those of Bruce Lee.
The same went for the PAL releases of the early video games, which had Michelangelo's weapon of choice fully visible and usable. By the time the TV series premiered, these censorship policies had been abolished, and no changes have occurred in the content of any incarnations of the show since.
This 3-Disc set contains all the episodes of Seasons 1 and 2 and 4 episodes from the final season, as well as a 1-Disc DVD with the first few episodes of Season 1.
This release features the original, unedited episodes under the "Ninja Turtles" title, and also marks the first time the show has been released and left uncensored in the UK.
Due to various movie and television deals, the various TMNT films and television series have split between various companies, with Mirage Studios having retained copyright and trademark until October 19, , at which point the rights for the entire TMNT franchise were sold by co-creator Peter Laird to Viacom minus volume 4 of the comic series, which Mirage indefinitely owns.
The series itself is owned by Wolf Films, with home entertainment rights residing with Lions Gate Entertainment , and the syndication rights belong to Nickelodeon's corporate sibling CBS Television Distribution.
The initial five-part miniseries retroactively considered the first season was copyrighted by Playmates Toys , although their rights to those episodes were bought out by Fred Wolf Films.

Zu dieser zweiten Serie entstand zudem der veröffentlichte, computeranimierte Kinofilm Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles und der minütige Fernsehfilm Turtles Forever , der ein Crossover zwischen der aktuellen Zeichentrickserie und der ersten darstellt.
Die beiden Zeichner Kevin Eastman und Peter Laird hatten als Parodie auf die in den ern populären Comicserien Daredevil , X-Men und Ronin eine Kurzgeschichte um vier mutierte, sprechende Riesenschildkröten entwickelt, die von einer ebenfalls mutierten Ratte in der Kunst des Ninjutsu unterwiesen wurden.
Die vier Turtles werden von dem zu einer humanoiden Ratte mutierten Meister Splinter in der asiatischen Kampfkunst Ninjutsu unterrichtet. Meister Splinter übernimmt dabei so etwas wie eine Vaterrolle für die vier Turtles, die zu Beginn der Serie etwa im Teenageralter sind.
Die vier Schildkröten ernähren sich vorzugsweise von Pizza. Jede der vier Hauptfiguren besitzt einen bestimmten Charakterzug. Die Turtles unterscheiden sich durch die Waffen, auf die sie jeweils spezialisiert sind, und in späteren Versionen weiterhin durch die Farben ihrer Gesichtsmasken.
In der Realserie wird Dragon Lord ihr schlimmster Feind. Die Comicserie besteht mittlerweile aus vier Jahrgängen.
Im vierten Jahrgang haben sich die Turtles stark weiter entwickelt. Jedoch wurde die Serie nach dem Verkauf der Nutzungsrechte an Nickelodeon im Jahre abrupt beendet, ohne die darin begonnenen Handlungsstränge weiterzuführen.
In den späten er Jahren war die Comicserie mit ihren vier Protagonisten Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo und Donatello so populär geworden, dass Fernsehsender den Zeichnern anboten, eine Zeichentrickserie auf der Basis ihrer Charaktere zu produzieren.
Die Zeichentrickserie wurde weltweit zum Erfolg und brachte es auf 10 Staffeln mit insgesamt knapp halbstündigen Episoden. Es wurden drei Realverfilmungen produziert, welche die Comics unabhängig von der Serie adaptierten.
Endlose Massen von Merchandising überschwemmten den internationalen Markt. Bis ins Jahr wurden insgesamt 11 Erweiterungen veröffentlicht.
Die Popularität der Comicvorlage in den späten er-Jahren führte dazu, dass Fernsehsender den Turtles-Erfindern Eastman und Laird anboten, eine Zeichentrickserie auf der Basis ihrer Charaktere zu produzieren.
In der Serie wird die bekannte Rahmenhandlung jedoch um einen weiteren fünften Turtle erweitert, die verschollene Schwester der Turtles Mei Pieh Chi , auch bekannt unter ihrem Spitznamen Venus de Milo benannt nach der berühmten Statue: Venus von Milo.
Von bis wurde für das US-amerikanische Fernsehen eine neue Zeichentrickserie produziert. Diese neue Serie ist stärker als alle bisherigen Comicadaptionen an den Original-Comic angelehnt.
Obgleich auch diese Serie hauptsächlich auf Kinder zugeschnitten ist, ist sie wesentlich düsterer und intelligenter als ihre Vorgänger.

Es wurden Folgen in fünf Staffeln produziert. Die Charakterdesigns der altbekannten Figuren wurden neu entwickelt und die Rollen verändert.

Sparen mit WOW!Right from the start we see that Raphael has issues. This anger forces him to distance himself and in the process we feel his fury. We immerse ourselves in the character and see how deep he can go.
From woefully staring into New York from a rooftop or letting out a frenzy upon the gang that has literally knocked April to the ground we are getting to know the character inside and out.
This is the hero of the movie. As for the comedic cheek of Casey Jones or the light-hearted double wisecracks of Michaelangelo and Donatello, I'd love to see the reason behind this movie having "no character study" as some people might say.
The action scenes are set up within the constraints of a normal fun movie with great camera angles just dying to be put on an advert or poster.
The turtle effects by the Jim Henson creature shop don't disappoint even though Splinter looks like he walked straight off the set of 'Labyrinth'.
The turtles are so good you shouldn't care anyway. The animatronics are fab and the voice characterisation is well chosen.
As for the main blessing, Steve Barron has chosen a dark tone for his movie. The original comic book would have been made proud by this attempt at making the movie more adult than people could believe.
The crime-filled backdrops of New York make a great battleground, and the whole mythological element that all crime is ruled by a master ninja adds to the drama.
The soundtrack couldn't be better for the beginning. This is a fantastic movie and horribly underrated. With so many great elements this goes down as one of the all time great fantasy adventures.
