I buy a 4k disc monthly and watch once with a group of old folks and then sell the movie I've always been captivated by this show- the footage they are able to capture is simply stunning!

Of course the footage in general is great, but the amount of detail in these images is amazing. You can see individual gnats buzzing around, and reflections in the eyes of the animals that you can almost identify as objects, The detail is just incredible.
I was blown away. The "making of" extras are pretty cool, too. If I had to make any criticism, I think the music is a bit loud. But overall very happy with this purchase.
I have yet to look at my discs because at the time of writing this, I only just received them. I am going to asume the discs work. My problem is the shipping package.
The case is thin and flimsy yet amazon ships it in a sticky bubble onvelope. So, the case is broken completely on both hinges and has another break across the side.

But to my delight, they did. But don't compare it to Planet Earth, but do not miss it either. It stands on its own merits.
A few days ago we had a couple of retirees from the states visiting us, and when you get to a certain age we all think we've pretty much seen everything, including nature shows.
So reluctantly they agreed to watch an episode, just to be polite. To say they were stunned would be to understate their reaction.

I'm saddened to say, though, that my anxiety does peak near the end of each segment, since David Attenborough has to mention in each episode how humans are destroying the planet.
I understand why he has to say it, that's super important to stay aware of!! But when you already obsess over climate change and recycle others' recycling for them, or do what you can to help the environment - either by donation or volunteering - the mentioning of how we are ruining the planet for ourselves and the beautiful creatures on our planet can be upsetting.
As long as you're prepared for it, and know it's coming near the end of every episode, you can allow yourself to enjoy the documentary and know that the message is for those that may not be aware or may need a better understanding of how our minute decisions impact our world.
This is the best disc to test out your new 4k tv. Some scenes are definitely sharper than others as they used many different cameras to film the scenes, however the high resolution scenes are spectacular.
It is quite amazing how close they get to the wildlife in order to shoot some of these scenes.
The bonus disc is quite informative and showcases the team's efforts in creating this masterpiece. One star deducted because of the inconsistent quality between some of the scenes.
Also planet earth 2 contains less content than the first planet earth movie. It is available on Netflix in 4k but the difference in picture quality is quite noticeable.

Each pixel has a resolution of 30 by 30 meters, except for the panchromatic band with a resolution of 15 meters. These pixels have a resolution of by meters.
Different colour bands can be combined to highlight different features. The two images to the left show the same area in Australia with a river and salt pan.
The first image shows the area the way a human would see it. We combined Landsat's red, green and blue bands to make the image.
For the second image we added some of the "invisible" bands. What looks like red in the picture is actually shortwave infrared. Green is really near infrared and what looks like blue is actually red!
